Hi, I’m Ameera Aslam.
I am an award-winning poet, bestselling author, seasoned editor, and writing coach.
For over 17 years, my work has been about finding the precise words that bridge the poetic and the practical. Whether I’m writing a book, editing a manuscript, or building a communications strategy, my goal is the same: to help individuals and organizations communicate with clarity, sincerity, and purpose.
Through my agency, Shems Tabriz Communications & Consultancy, I offer editorial consulting, communications strategy, and writing coaching. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating on projects like Sufi Comics, LaunchGood, and the Daleel al-Khayrāt docu-series. But beyond the creative side, I bring a strong, results-driven foundation to the table. As a Content Specialist and Marketing Strategist, I build the architecture behind the words—developing content strategies, managing newsletters and digital campaigns, and leveraging SEO and analytics to ensure every piece of writing reaches and moves its intended audience.
In my own writing, I am the author of three books. My debut poetry collection, Desiring Light, won the Daybreak Press Book Award, and my Islamic non-fiction title, When You Think You’re Falling, debuted on the Wardah Books, MPH Click, and Straits Times bestseller lists within weeks of its release. My essays and poetry have appeared in international publications, and I regularly write blurbs, moderate panels, and emcee events.
As a writing coach, editor, and retreat facilitator, I view myself as a guide. I know firsthand that the creative process is rarely a straight line, so my approach to coaching is deeply flexible. I meet you exactly where you are in your journey, helping you untangle your ideas and move forward with structure, confidence, and a refined voice.
This guiding philosophy naturally extends into the spiritual retreats I lead, such as the Living Open-Heartedly gatherings. Drawing on profound themes—from the wisdom of Imam al-Ghazali to the work of Stephen Levine—I hold space for people to deeply reflect, reconnect with their faith, and navigate their own inner landscapes.
My work extends beyond the page and the podium. I believe that writing and speaking are not just arts, but forms of service. I co-founded #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers, a Singapore-based initiative that raises funds for migrant worker welfare (featured in The Straits Times, Berita Harian, and MediaCorp). I also actively provide peer support and advocate for domestic violence survivors.
Originally from Singapore, I am now based in Melbourne, Australia. When I’m not writing, consulting, or packing letters for my Open Hearts Snail Mail Club, I am usually reading a book under a tree. 🙂
